RESIDENTIAL STUCCO
The smooth, traditional, southwestern look of stucco is hard to beat as a siding material. Applied in three coats over a lath base, it provides a solid, durable, and unique seamless look.
Hard Coat, or "traditional" stucco, consists of a substrate (usually oriented strand board or plywood), a moisture wrap or weather resistive barrier, a wire lath to hold the stucco in place, and several coats of stucco consisting of lime sand and portland cement.
Hard Coat stucco is applied either by hand or machine to exterior and interior wall surfaces in two or three coats. It may be applied directly to a solid base such as masonry or concrete walls, or it can be applied to metal lath attached to frame construction, solid masonry, or concrete construction. A vapor-permeable, water-resistant building paper separates the plaster & lath from water sensitive sheathing or framing. Hard coat stucco has high impact resistance, sheds water while breathing and allows water vapor to escape.
