Myth or Fact: EIFS Are Banned In Some Cities

This is a myth.  EIFS (Exterior Insulating Finishing Systems) are not banned in any city.  As EIFS has evolved over the years, manufactures have designed EIFS with a drainage plane directly behind the EPS foam that captures incidental moisture that may entry the wall cavity and allow it to drain at various moisture exit points.  Almost all cities require this type of EIFS (often refered as Moisture Drainage EIFS) when installed on new commercial or residential projects.

It is important to note that all the critical details that have been discussed in previous entry’s are still required with MD EIFS as the goal with any cladding system is to not allow water to enter the wall cavity.
