Exterior Restorations was hired to correct many improper EIFS installation details on a recently built home in Aspen, CO.  The EIFS, also known as exterior insulating finishing system, that was installed lacked proper detailing that was causing the EIFS to crack and allow moisture intrusion around many of the doors and windows.  8” of the EIFS had to be removed around all the windows, doors and terminations at the roof, slabs & grade.  This had to be meticulously completed so that the underlying water resistive barrier was not damaged.  New pre-back wrapped starter boards manufactured by Dryvit were installed where the EIFS was removed.  All of the walls were then skim coated with a polymer-modified basecoat with embedded fibermesh and a new finish coat.  Finally, all of the windows, doors, soffits and penetrations were sealed using a high-quality polyurethane caulking to ensure the water-tightness of the EIFS.
